From thunderstorms to pharmaceutical manufacturing, triboelectrification is involved as the particles collide with other particles or contact walls. Unlike piezoelectricity, all insulating materials exhibit flexoelectric properties, which is polarization due to strain gradients. Tribology has been studied for years. However, it is not until recently that research suggests a link between flexoelectric effect and triboelectricity. I am interested in understanding the connection between the two effects during particle collision.
